Umbria, Italy
You will be, 5 km from Castiglione del Lago and 3 km from Sanfatucchio.
Castiglione del Lago overlooking Lake Trasimeno, is one of the most beautiful villages in the Lake area. The village is one of the most important tourist centers of Trasimeno, it owes it's medieval imprint to the lords of Corgna, who became masters of the lake in the sixteenth century.
In addition to the beautiful historic center within the walls, Palazzo Ducale is definitely what you can not miss in the visit of the country. Initially born as a villa it was then transformed into a court of the dynasty, also called Palazzo della Corgna since its construction took place in 1563 at the behest of Ascanio della Corgna. Today it is home to important cultural activities and an interesting museum itinerary, which illustrates moments of life of the noble family, painted by the famous painter Niccolò Circignani called Pomarancio.
Connected to the Palace by a long walkway, stands the Rocca del Leone and the castle, a typically feudal military fortification.
It owes its name to the pentagonal shape, inspired by the constellation of Leo, which dominates the Trasimeno from above, in one of its most beautiful views. It was built from the second half of the twelfth century on the remains of an Etruscan acropolis at the behest of Frederick II of Swabia. Inside the walls of the castle there is a suggestive amphitheater where shows alternate throughout the summer.
Inside the historic center, in addition to the church of the town of Santa Maria Maddalena, there is the beautiful church of San Domenicodi Guzman of 1640, which houses the tombs of members of the Corgna family; notable is the wooden coffered ceiling, of the sec. XVIII.
